Another Fantastic Polar Bear Photography Trip to Svalbard!

Journeys Unforgettable, a destination specialist who has a heart and passion for Africa and her homeland, offers those travelers a very unique and specific opportunity to venture outside the jungles, deserts, and savannas for a “polar opposite” experience. Each year, Journeys Unforgettable privately charters an ice breaker to circumnavigate the Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard.

Svalbard is the northernmost tip of Europe and, with its settlements also being the northernmost permanently inhabited spots on the planet!  Located between the 76° and 81° parallels, the archipelago of Svalbard is far more northerly than any part of Alaska and all but a few of Canada’s Arctic islands.  In fact, they would be permanently locked in by ice if not for the moderating influence of the Gulf Stream, and it is this comparative warmth that makes them habitable.  Who would have thought that the waters in Florida Straits would effect the polar bears in the North Pole ?!?!

This year’s photographic adventure welcomed 12 guests for each departure (2 x 12 Day trips), with Arctic Guide and Polar Bear Expert Rinie van Meurs and professional photographer Dana Allen as the groups’ lead guides.   Please visit for our 2014 departure schedule and details.

This years trip was an intimate experience and truly unforgettable, seeing more than 20 polar bears on each departure in addition to beautiful whale, seal, walrus, bird, and fox sightings!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Journeys Unforgettable did not discover Svalbard, but we did fall in love.  We look forward to our voyages in 2014, 2015, and beyond!
